Course Description and Goals

The College Board has made some changes to the AP Psychology course.  These changes will commence September 2019.  I will post some information as it becomes available.

The goal of this course is to increase your understanding of psychology, its methods, theory, and research, with the objective that each student passes the Advanced Placement exam in May.  The course will explore the psychological facts, principles, and phenomena associated with each of the major subfields of psychology.  The course is broken into 9 units which reflect divisions of major areas of psychology.  Each unit will have essential questions that will be answered using knowledge gained through classroom activities, select readings, and direct instruction.

This course is taught at the college level and student habits and participation should reflect this fact.  It is hoped that knowledge of psychological inquiry will provide perceptions of the world around us, insights into one's and other's behavior, and an appreciation of the complexity of human behavior.

The least important person in the classroom is the instructor.  Acting as a college student, you are expected to "charge ahead" on your own, to seek, find, and internalize knowledge on your own.  In short, you must be the main agent in your educational process.
